はじめまして。７月からインターンとしてセブンスピリットで活動をお手伝いさせていただいています、岩岡千熙です。９月までの約３か月間、子どもたちと一緒に過ごす日々を全力で楽しみたいと思います。よろしくお願いします。

 

Hello everyone! I’m Chihiro Iwaoka. I do my internship in Sevenspirit starting July. I’m going to stay here until September. I’m really looking forward to having good time with children. Nice to meet you.

 

今日は９月に行われるUUUオーケストラプロジェクトに向けて練習に励む子どもたちの姿をお届けします。UUUオーケストラプロジェクトとは、セブンスピリットが年に２回主催している１０日間のボランティアツアーです。

 

Today, let me introduce children who practice hard to perform at UUU orchestra project that will be held in September. UUU orchestra project is ten-day-tour that is held by Sevenspirit twice a year.

 

そこで演奏する予定のレ・ミゼラブルメドレー。子どもたちは楽器での演奏に加えて、英語での合唱にも挑戦します。

 

Children will play Les Miserables Medley there. They’ll try chorus in English in addition to playing the instruments.

 

 

 

彼らにとっての課題は、①発音　②タイミング　③感情表現　の３つ。

 

They have improvement points such as pronunciation, timing, and expressing emotion.

 

①    発音

子どもたちの多くはとても流暢に英語を話しますが、そんな彼らにとってもアメリカ英語の発音は難しいようです。日々の練習でも、歌の練習をする前に必ず音源を聴いて発音の確認をしています。

 

1. Pronunciation

Many of them can speak English fluently, however, it’s difficult for them to pronounce American accent correctly. In daily practice, they listen to sample to confirm correct pronunciation before singing a song.

 

②    タイミング

子どもたちが合唱する曲のひとつ、At the End of the Dayはとてもテンポが速いです。そのため、音の入りや移り変わりのタイミングがずれると、お客さんに歌詞が正確に伝わりません。そこでまずはゆっくりのテンポから、みんなでタイミングをそろえることに集中して練習しています。

 

2. timing

One of songs is so hard to sing because it has really fast tempo. If they fail to sing at same timing, audience wouldn’t be able to understand the meaning of the lyrics. Therefore, at fast, they focus on timing with slow tempo.

 

③    感情表現

レ・ミゼラブルは登場人物の感情が複雑に絡み合って物語が構成されています。一口に「悲しみ」と言っても、怒りを含むものや絶望を表すもの、「喜び」と言っても、切なさを含むものや大切な人への思いを表すものなど様々です。それらのシチュエーションを思い浮かべながら、どんな感情を表現するのかを考えています。

 

3. expressing emotion

Les Miserables is composed of many complicated character’s emotions. In this story, “sadness” means not only anger but also despair. “pleasure” means not only heartrending sorrow but also love to dear people. Children imagine these situation and think about how to express emotions.

 

 

この日は発音と感情表現の２つの練習に取り組みました。

 

On that day, they practiced pronunciation and expressing emotion.

 

「ゼアーズ　ア（there’s a）じゃなくて、ゼアーザ。sとaはいつもつなげて発音するんだよ。」フィリピン人スタッフのジュナリンのあとに続いて発音の練習中です。

 

“we have to connect s and a.” They were following Junalyn who is one of philippina staffs.

 

 

 

続いて感情表現の練習。怒りの感情から誰かに部屋を出て行ってほしいとき、その口調は決して穏やかなものではなくて、声を荒げたりするよね、ということをみんなで確認した後…

「さあ、みんなでジュードのことを怒って！」というジュナリンの一言でスタジオは大盛り上がり。

 

It’s about expressing emotion. They imagined the situation when we want to make someone get out of a room because of anger and they shared that we often shout, not with soft voice. After that…… “Be angry with Jude!!” Once Junalyn said so, children got so excited.

 

みんなで怒りに満ちたAt the End of the Dayを歌いながらフィリピン人スタッフのジュードを囲っています。

 

Jude who is also one of philippino staffs was surrounded by children singing At the End of the Day with anger.

 

子どもたちはレ・ミゼラブルメドレーが大好きなようで、練習が終わった後や帰り道でもずっと歌を口ずさんでいます。これからUUUオーケストラプロジェクトまでの約２か月間で、子どもたちのパフォーマンスがどのように進歩していくのか今からとても楽しみです。

 

It seems that children love Les Miserables Medley. They are always singing it even after practice and on their way home. I do expect them to improve their performance before UUU orchestra project starts.
